  • Check: In an emergency, start by assessing the scene for potential dangers before taking action.

  • Call: 911 to alert professional help, providing vital details and receiving guidance while preparing for their arrival.

  • Care: Administer immediate assistance based on your assessment, following instructions from the dispatcher until medical professionals take over.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, also known as CPR, consists of a set of standardized maneuvers, where the main function is to replace the circulatory and respiratory system of the victim. The primary objective is to maintain the minimal oxygen required by the brain and other vital organs, thus delaying the effects and irreversible damage caused by lack of breathing and circulation. To achieve this, it is necessary to circulate oxygenated blood through external chest compressions and introduce air to the victim, until specialized teams arrive.

An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable electronic device accessible to anyone, designed to identify a cardiac arrhythmia.

If the cause of the cardiac arrest is an arrhythmia, it can be corrected by means of an electrical shock delivered by the AED. This interrupts the heart's electrical activity long enough to allow the heart to spontaneously initiate an effective rhythm.
